I can never figure out how the media can get away with calling Obama an out-of-touch elitist. Of all the remaining candidates, he’s got the least personal wealth, the least cushioned upbringing, overcome the most socio-economic barriers, spent the most time physically organizing and motivating marginalized communities in recent years, and didn’t depend on anyone else’s connections or money to get him where he is today. I can’t find anything in his personal history or world-view that would qualify him as an out-of-touch elitist. Anyone willing to take a good, hard honest look at him would undoubtedly reach the same conclusion.
I agree…and I went to school town in a small town in PA - central PA - where there is a freaking burning fire that has been going on for centuries because it cannot be put out. I lived there for 4 years and then even a little bit after I graduated when I was helping out with the vball team and you know what? I totally understood what he was saying. People are bitter. If you choose to take what he said completely literally and seperate the words from the context, that is where you are going to loose his message. But what he was saying? about people being frustrated and bitter and then holding onto the things that have always been there for them - like hunting, guns and religion? Was true, in my opinion. Not that there arent exceptions - but everyone is frustrated and bitter. There was truth in what he said plain and simple.
Nobody is going to stop supporting Obama unless they themselves do feel he is elitist. As long as they can figure him...
